Balconies can be one of the most neglected spaces of your apartment. If you’re living in the capital, you are most likely renting a flat. Just because your balcony is small does not mean that you have to compromise comfort and style – you can turn that small space into something quirky and fun. Think of those summer nights sitting there enjoying a cold beverage whilst chatting away with mates.
You can make the most out of your small space by jazzing it up. Even if your balcony is one of those tiny ones with barely enough space to step outside, here are some balcony ideas to inspire you.
Plants & flowers
Balconies can be a wonderful extension of your living space. Work with all of the challenges and they can be a rewarding and beautiful place all year round. Despite it being winter, you still have the chance to jazz up your balcony before spring/summer. Investing in plants and flowers can be a great way of creating depth. Place plants and flowers on all sides of your balcony so that it creates the feeling of being in a garden. You can even use a rail-mounted table. Choose all year plants and flowers, so you won’t have to re-plant new ones each season.
Bench & table
If you have enough space you might want to fit a small bench that can cater to a few people. During the summer months, be sure to add some fluffy cushions and pillows. Or, if your balcony is pretty big, why not hang a hammock from one side to the other – this will provide a relaxing space for summer drinks.
Small chairs, coffee table and rug
If your balcony is extremely small and a bench will not fit, then you might want to invest in a couple of garden chairs, and a small coffee table.
This setup is perfect for those with limited space. Add some cushions to the chairs, and a small coffee table to perch drinks on and you will be all set. If you do not have a coffee table, try using a crate turned upside down with a tablecloth draped over it. If you want to spruce up your balcony further, add a rug so that you have comfort underfoot.
One of the more popular options is adding fake grass to your balcony. Artificial grass decking is extremely versatile, and when installed correctly it can be placed pretty much anywhere. I wouldn’t go as far as putting it all round the house, but add it to your balcony so that you have something comfortable to walk on.
Before you set out to spice up your balcony, you might want to think about the positioning of it. There are several other factors to consider, such as whether your balcony faces the sun, if it is extremely windy or whether the balcony faces a street.
Balconies can be a wonderful extension of your living space, work with what you have and they can be extremely rewarding!
