There are many celebrities out there who are often defined by their body parts. It’s difficult to imagine model and actress Cara Delevingne without her prominent eyebrows or Kim Kardashian without her iconic bottom so it’s not unusual to find famous faces insuring their prized body parts in case the worst case scenario occurs. Whether it’s a shrewd financial decision, or an example of extreme shallowness, whichever side of the coin you are on we cast our eye over some stars who have taken bodily insurance to the extreme.
The world of sport is unsurprisingly filled with players making sure that their particular body parts are covered in case of injury or poor health. A champion golfer who can no longer swing a club because of his back, or a tennis player with debilitating wrist issues could lose their entire incomes and livelihood so it’s prudent to establish a plan B.
Ask any football fan and they are constantly on injury watch, hoping that their favourite players don’t pick up an injury that will keep them out for a significant period of time. But it’s not just fans holding their breath when mega-stars take a knock. Ballon d’Or winner and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo’s legs are an incredibly expensive asset and are even insured to the tune of $144 million.
The music industry also has a number of big names and stars making sure their invaluable assets are covered in the event of any problems. Rocker Bruce Springsteen has his vocal cords insured for $6 million, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has his hands insured for $4 million and there are even unsubstantiated rumours that legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones has insured his iconic chest hair for a massive $7 million. Additionally, even though it wouldn’t necessarily affect her singing career, Mariah Carey has her impressive set of legs insured for a whopping $1 billion.
Hollywood star Julia Roberts and ‘Ugly Betty’ actress America Ferrara both sport beaming white smiles. Roberts is renowned for her pearly whites and Ferrara herself is the face of home teeth-whitening product Aquafresh. Therefore both ladies felt it necessary to take out policies to ensure that their gnashers stay that way with insurance cover for their smiles valued at $30 million and $10 million respectively.
But for the ladies in Hollywood, it’s not just the smiles and the legs that get the attention from fans and insurers alike. Country singer Dolly Parton has her bust insured for a cool $600k and Madonna has her hair covered for an incredible $2 million.
