2018 has been a year in which the idea of a preppy, short backed and side styled hair cut is truly a thing of the past. Instead, this year has embraced the eccentric and has indulged in less conventional styles that are sure to shock any parent. It is about rejecting what is commonly expected from a man’s barber. No longer do you need to worry about your hair looking scruffy or having hairs out of place. Here is the lowdown on the best men’s hair trends of 2018.
The soft parting
If you are looking for a hair style that does not take much time to perfect, but always gives you a truly laid-back look, then the soft parting is the perfect style for you. As Richard Tucker, owner of Ruffians Barbershop, has said, “this cut has shorter layers and texture throughout. The sides can be kept longer with scissors only, or a low fade would look good, too”.
Simply wash your hair, rub it dry with a towel and then use your fingers to brush it in place. What’s even better about this hairstyle is how flexible it is. This is a completely relaxed hair style, so you can simply sweep your hair to the side with your fingers, or use a small amount of gel to sculpt your hair.
The side parting
If you are looking to retain a look of class but indulge in the hipster lifestyle, then a side parting is the perfect way to look suave. If you have mid length wavy hair, then be sure to wash and brush your hair so the side parting is clearly visible. You can then use gel to style it into shape.
The mid-haired back sweep
This look is perfect if your hair is short to mid-length, so that you have the opportunity to sweep your hair back with a perfect taper. Have your barber shave your hair so that it us just above your neck line, (though make sure they have proper barber insurance before they use any sort of razor on you) so that the hair stands up and can be gelled into place without any fear of injury. You can then sweep the remaining mid length hair into place on your head, and even use gel on separate strands for more volume.
A recent trend in male hairstyles is adding a strong and vibrant tint to your roots, this mostly being a dark red, so that a taper can be made and different lighter colours can be dyed on top of this colour. This looks even better if you keep your hair one full colour whilst using the rainbow additions on your fringe.
Taper and Neck Fade
When it comes to texturizing a dishevelled hair look in 2018, then you may want to consider tapering your hair so that it remains volumized on top of your head. By shaving the back of your hair, it will appear that it is fading into your neck, meaning that you will have the opportunity to retain a smart and orderly look whilst looking cool.
